Octopre MKII and Octopre Dynamic MKII draw on Focusrite’s legacy of designing premium quality microphone preamplifiers. Both units ship with 8 of their award winning mic preamps, as well as featuring 8 line outputs. The main difference between the products is that Octopre Dynamic also offers compression on each input.
An overlooked feature on these superb preamps is that they also come fitted with an ADAT output. The ADAT protocol allows for the transmission of 8-channels of audio at up to 24-bit resolution via a single light-pipe. This can be used to connect Octopre’s ADAT output to any product with an ADAT input, thereby greatly expanding the input and mic preamp count of any respective product.
As a result, an ADAT equipped soundcard or audio interface can seriously benefit from the addition of an Octopre. A classic example is the current Focusrite Saffire Pro range, which by adding an Octopre increases the microphone input count by 8, making them ideal as a modular system for large recording projects.
